  • NCA JOINS MEMORIAL SUPER NEIGHBORHOOD

    • Posted by Admin
    • May 5, 2013

Nottingham Civic Association became part of the Memorial Super Neighborhood on April 22nd 2013. A super neighborhood is a geographically designated area where residents, civic organizations, institutions and businesses work together to identify, plan, and set priorities to address the needs and concerns of their community. The boundaries of each super neighborhood rely on major physical features (bayous, freeways, etc.) to group together contiguous communities that share common physical characteristics, identity or infrastructure. The MSN is bounded approximately by I10 to the North, Buffalo Bayou to the South, SH 6 to the west, and the incorporated Villages of Hedwig, Bunker Hill and Piney Point to the east.

    Memorial Super Neighborhood

The super neighborhood elects a council comprised of area residents and stakeholders that serves as a forum to discuss issues and identify and implement priority projects for the area. David Mandery, the current NCA president, has volunteered to represent Nottingham I, II & III. Ken West, our Treasurer is the alternate. By joining this group, our neighborhood will stay informed about what is happening in the community and benefit from the strength of the larger whole.

To read more about Super Neighborhoods, click here.

Click here to learn more about the MSN. It is a dynamic organization focused on improving this part of Houston. The website includes the schedule of upcoming meetings which are open to the public. The NCA Board thinks this is a very good way to stay informed and plans to use information from the MSN as another resource for decision-making and planning in the future. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

  • 2012 AMENDMENT RESULTS ARE IN!

    • Posted by Admin
    • October 27, 2012

    Nottingham Homeowners:

The results are in and all of the deed restrictions passed, except for the Amendment #7, regarding the 51% brick restriction. 215 yes votes were required to pass these amendments, and we had over 90% homeowners cast their vote. Kudos to all of you civic-minded neighbors! Below is a link to download a detailed document with specific counts.

The Board would like to thank everyone that has been involved during this journey of updating our deed restrictions. The effort began in 2008 with the formation of a committee delegated to propose a slate of restrictions that would allow for new building and keep the feel for the original neighborhood. Over these past few years, many volunteers have dedicated countless hours conducting research, talking to neighbors, consulting with builders to find the right combination of restrictions to be satisfactory for the most residents. When the effort failed to reach a quorum two years ago, the Board listened to the objections and proceeded with a plan that gave the neighborhood the voice it requested. This time, the effort was a success!

A few folks should be named specifically for their efforts. Murphy Klasing, who has served on the Board during this entire process, has provided innumerable hours of legal counsel - many thanks! John Perez, who spearheaded the first round of voting and Brooke Daniel, who stepped in to undertake our most recent drive, did an outstanding job of organizing & communicating the message to the neighborhood. All of the block captains who knocked on doors until they reached every last neighbor on the block deserve a big thank you!

One of the really positive things that came out of this was getting to see so many neighbors outside talking to one another. It brought Nottingham closer together. Again, thank you to all!

  • DEED RESTRICTIONS UPDATE

    • Posted by Admin
    • September 6, 2012

The purpose of this communication is to provide information to Nottingham homeowners about Deed Restrictions for the neighborhood and next steps.

The Board's goal is to propose revised deed restrictions that will:

         1) Represent the opinions and previous feedback of the Nottingham homeowners

         2) Preserve the traditions of our neighborhood look and feel, while continuing to attract new home owners to the neighborhood, and

         3) Continue to maintain/improve our home values.

It is extremely important that everyone in the neighborhood let their voice be heard – in previous deed restriction voting, a low number of votes was partially responsible for the lack of deed restrictions we have today.

A minimum 67% of 320 homeowners must vote YES to approve the new restrictions; If not enough people vote or the restrictions are voted down, then the current 1988 restrictions will remain in place, allowing for new home builds and remodels to be virtually unrestricted.

    BE SURE TO VOTE!

The timeline for moving forward with this effort includes:

         1) September 17, the newly proposed deed restrictions, along with a comparison of the proposed vs. current restrictions will be posted here on the community website

         2) October 1 - Neighborhood Town Hall meeting to discuss the newly proposed deed restrictions and

         3) October 17 - Neighborhood vote.

Please watch for notifications around the neighborhood as we prepare for this all-important vote.

    Thank you,

    Brooke Daniel

  • Nottingham Wall Project Update

    • Posted by Admin
    • June 13, 2012

Your HOA Board is currently reviewing several bids for construction of a new wall for the South edge of the neighborhood running along Memorial. We have decided that our minimum requirements will include 8 foot tall wall similar in construction to the walls that have been constructed by our neighboring HOAs.

A technical detail holding up the project is that we are working with the City of Houston to gain approval to build on the land adjacent to Memorial West Community Club. The agreement we are seeking will ensure that we can build the wall on that property to match to remainder of the wall we will build and that the wall we build on it will never be altered.

Projects like this take time and must not be rushed. Your HOA Board members are just as anxious as the rest of you and I assure you we are moving forward to complete this project as quickly as possible. The newly renovated HOA website will be used to communicate progress updates as soon as we have them and will tweet all milestones of this historic endeavor.
